Why tactics games reward patience
Grid tactics games have a reputation for being hard, and that scares some people off. But the difficulty usually isn't about reflexes — it's about reading a situation and planning ahead. Once that clicks, they're some of the most satisfying games on a phone.
Take Ironhold Tactics. The first time I rushed a map, my whole squad got picked apart. The second time I used cover, kept units together, and let the enemy come to me. Same map, completely different outcome. The game didn't change — I did.
The trick is to treat early losses as scouting. You learn where the enemies spawn, what they're capable of, and how the terrain works. Then you replay with that knowledge. It feels less like banging your head against a wall and more like solving a slow puzzle.
If you've bounced off strategy games before, start on the easier difficulty and let yourself lose. Patience is the actual skill here, not twitch timing.
