RPGs that actually fit a commute
The problem with most RPGs on mobile is that they assume you'll sit down for an hour. On a train that stops every eight minutes, that's a fantasy. So we looked for role-playing games built around short bursts.
Turn-based combat is your friend here. You can pause mid-fight, lock the screen, and pick it right back up. Emberwild Oath, which we reviewed recently, handles this well — the battles save state cleanly and nothing punishes you for stepping away.
The other thing to watch for is auto-save frequency. A good mobile RPG saves after nearly every action. Test it early: play five minutes, force-close the app, and see how much you lost. If it's more than a turn or two, it's not built for your lifestyle.
My tip is to keep your party setup simple so you're not fiddling with menus the second you open the game. Spend the standing-room minutes playing, not sorting inventory.
